Egypt weighs stance on Ethiopian Tigray conflict

As conflict rages in Ethiopia, Egypt welcomes a delegation from Eritrea stressing its support for regional peace and stability while being keen on resuming the GERD talks amidst concerns over its water security.

CAIRO — While the conflict rages in the Ethiopian Tigray region, a high-ranking delegation from Eritrea arrived in Cairo Nov. 17 for a visit that raised questions about the Egyptian position on the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia and the motives behind the Eritrean ally’s visit at this time.

On Nov. 18, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received his Eritrean counterpart, Othman Saleh, and the political adviser to Eritrean President Yamani Jabr Ab at Tahrir Palace in Cairo.
