Algerian military analysts, who followed the developments of the Libyan war two years ago, predicted that the US ship fleet would use hundreds of Tomahawk subsonic cruise missiles to strike targets of the Syrian army, in the framework of the military campaign that is currently being prepared against Syria. The operations will continue for four to 10 days, according to the scenario proposed by a retired high official from the Algerian People’s National Army (APNA).
Algerian military experts believe that the operation that is almost certainly going to be launched against Syria, according to sources, was planned and prepared months ago in the framework of what is known as strategic planning and preparation for expected future military operations.
Moreover, according to Algerian experts, the cruise missiles which were launched from American battleships and submarines achieved major results in deciding the war against the forces of former Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi’s regime in 2011. Thus, the United States is encouraged to use these missiles abundantly in the war against Syria.
In this context, Husni M., a retired general in the APNA, stated: “We can expect a Western attack on Syria as part of several scenarios.” The two most likely scenarios, he said, are as follows:
“The first is that the US battleships that are nearing the Syrian shores will launch intensive shelling operations lasting for several days against strategic targets within Syria, using Tomahawk subsonic cruise missiles. Moreover, the raids will target the military command headquarters, the main airports and air defense bases, as well as ballistic missile bases in Syria. Then, they will aim at large gathering points for Syrian army elites who played a decisive role in the persistence and unity of the Syrian regime. The military attack could last from four to 10 days or longer depending on field developments. Moreover, the whole operation aims to weaken the Syrian army as a prelude to the toppling of the regime through negotiations. This blow will start heavy, and then decrease in intensity according to field developments.
“As for the second scenario, it consists of implementing the operation with the participation of American warplanes and rocket launchers that take off from US aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean. Then, specific strikes will be launched against vital locations for the Syrian army and security apparatus. Although this possibility is unlikely, it has not been completely ruled out, and it is included in the emergency plan that the US forces will resort to in case dangerous developments occur during the implementation of the military operation.”
Retired Col. Hadan S. said: “The war in Syria is completely different from the war that took place in Libya and can never be resolved through air strikes, even if the armed opposition cooperates with Western air forces. The reason is that the Syrian army is very well organized, equipped and trained and has plenty of weapons. Moreover, it has expanded its deployment in light of the two-year war experience.”
Hadan added, “The United States cannot wage war against Syria without the participation of Israel, because the ammunition and rocket storehouse in the American battleships and the four destroyers that will reportedly be directed against the Syrian coasts will not be sufficient to carry out effective military operations against the powerful Syrian army. Therefore, I expect that the United States will use Israeli missile reserves, provided that it will be compensated for immediately through air and naval shipment operations.
“I believe that Israel will take part in the air raids and missile shelling under the guise that the operations are initiated by US troops. Better yet, the missiles will be launched from Israel against Syrian targets, and Israel will participate in the operations simply because no one in the world knows the precise details about the situation inside the Syrian territories better than Israeli intelligence. Moreover, the United States will not waste such an accurate source of information, not to mention that the pilots in the Israeli air force are well acquainted with Syrian airspace — another asset that the Unites States will not waste. Consequently, the world will think that the raids are being launched from the sea or Jordan or Turkey, but in reality they will come from Israel.”
