Australia condemns intrusive search of women before Qatar Airways flight

Authorities in Doha reportedly searched women's private parts without consent after an abandoned newborn was discovered before a flight to Sydney.

A ban on Qatari flights imposed by Saudi Arabia and its allies took effect as first efforts were made to resolve the biggest feud to hit the Arab world in years. Saudi Arabia and allies including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain cut diplomatic ties and transport links with Qatar on Monday, accusing the Gulf state of supporting extremism.

Australia condemned the Qatari authorities on Oct. 26 for an invasive search performed on female passengers before a flight from Doha to Sydney following the discovery of a newborn baby.

The incident took place Oct. 2 after a newborn baby was found abandoned at Hamad International Airport before a Qatar Airways flight to the Australian city. Authorities at the airport dispatched medical and social workers to care for the baby and then attempted to locate the mother, The Associated Press reported.
