In a ceremony that reportedly cost 5 million euros ($5.56 million) in Mykonos, Greece, Karim El Chiaty celebrated his wedding last month to Brazilian supermodel and former Victoria's Secret model Ana Beatriz Barros. Karim is the son of businessman Hamid El Chiaty, owner of Travco Group for Tourism and a fugitive from Egypt to Greece in the wake of the January 25 Revolution in 2011.
In March 2011, the attorney general froze the assets and funds of Hamid El Chiaty in Egypt following the accusation the month before that he was involved in manipulating the price of the Novotel Luxor Hotel, sold in 2005 by then-Minister of Tourism Ahmed Maghrabi to Chiaty, and the 3 million square meters (740 acres) of northern coastal property that were allocated to El Chiaty Tours.
