LivePulse: Egypt Paralympics

Al-Monitor meets with Egypt's powerlifting paralympians as they head off to London to compete in the Paralympic Games 2012 (August 29-September 9). The athletes are favored to clinch several medals, including gold, as many of them already top the world charts in their weight category. Egypt's Paralympic team consists of 40 athletes, including 15 competing in powerlifting, six in athletics, 11 in sitting volleyball, and eight playing in table tennis singles and teams. The head of the team told local media he hoped to bring back 15 medals. Egypt's paralympians brought home 12 medals in the Beijing Paralympic games in 2008, outdoing their able-bodied fellow citizens competing in the Olympics.
