Despite perceptions that Kurds are sitting out the uprising in Syria, a diverse protest movement has emerged in Kurdish cities there. Demonstrations are led by Kurdish political parties and by a network of grassroots groups called Local Coordination Committees. While the partisan groups often display party slogans, LCC slogans echo those of their Arab counterparts across the country. Kurdish nationalism is often an underlying theme, either complementing or competing with anti-regime slogans.
