US election 2016: Trump seals the deal

Here's what happened on the campaign trail the week of July 18.

No more equivocating: Donald Trump is the Republican nominee for president, and voters can either get behind him or see Hillary Clinton elected commander in chief in November.

A last-ditch revolt by a handful of delegates was easily — if noisily — put down July 18, the first day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Two days later, former rival Ted Cruz's failure to endorse the party's nominee was met by a chorus of boos from the audience and declarations of dismay from GOP leaders, leaving no doubt of what's now expected of loyal Republicans.
