Skill requirements include first-class academic background and recruiting experience within a hardware and software engineering environment, as well as experience recruiting in volatile work environments and managing hiring for 20-plus vacancies. The applicant also must demonstrate experience working in a multinational environment and excellent leadership skills, as well as a passion for detail and a natural ability to look at the “big picture.” And if you wonder about the location, although London appears at the top of the announcement, there are indications that the job will be carried out in Israel.

This is the first time Apple is openly seeking to recruit personnel in Israel, and the first clear indication of its intent to hire a significant number of employees there. Last month, it was reported that the company planned to set up a [research and] development center in Haifa, to be managed by veteran high-tech entrepreneur Aharon Aharon.

Apple has not yet announced the exact location of its new development center, but it is expected to be located in MATAM hi-tech park in southern  Haifa, Israel. About two months ago, Apple acquired, for some $500 million, the Israeli start-up Anobit, developer of a unique chip technology designed to improve flash-memory storage in mobile digital devices, Tablets and Smartphones – a technology already used by Apple to enhance user experience with its products. Following the acquisition, Anobit announced that dozens of its workers would be laid off, mainly marketing and sales personnel.

It is rumored that Apple has already started screening candidates' résumés and even locally hiring hardware engineers specializing in chip development and hardware tests.

Apple's future development center in Israel, which is expected to go into operation within weeks, joins the local centers of technology powerhouses Intel, Microsoft and IBM. At the beginning of the month, Internet-retail leader eBay announced the official launch of its development center in Israel, stating that it intended to recruit dozens of employees, in addition to those already engaged by the company in Netanya and Tel Aviv. Two other international companies running rather large development centers in Israel are Broadcom and Marvell.

Aharon, a hardware expert, formerly held several senior positions at IBM Israel. He later managed the R&D center of chip developer Zoran Corp.
