وصف منصب رئيس الجمهوريّة في العراق على الدّوام، بأنّه "منصب تشريفيّ بلا صلاحيّات، لكن هذا الوصف لا ينتمي إلى نصوص الدّستور العراقيّ التي تمنح رئيس الجمهوريّة صلاحيّات لافتة، تجعله في موقع المنافسة مع رئيس الحكومة.

وانتخب البرلمان العراقيّ السيّد فؤاد معصوم رئيساً للجمهوريّة في جلسة الخميس في 24 من الجاري، بالتّصويت الثاني، وبأغلبيّة 211 نائباً من بين 269 نائباً حضروا الجلسة.
