على رغم  اهتمام وسائل الإعلام العراقية بنبأ رفع العراق احتياطياته من الذهب، إلا أن السكان المحليين ربما لم يدركوا كيف سينعكس هذا الأمر على شؤونهم اليومية.

وكان تقرير شهري لإحصاءات صندوق النقد الدولي، قال نهاية العام الماضي، إن أرصدة العراق من الذهب، تضاعفت بين أغسطس/آب واكتوبر/ تشرين الأول 2012، أربع مرات، لتصل إلى أكثر من 31 طنا. وهو أمر يحدث للمرة الأولى في العراق منذ عدّة أعوام.
